Medical Patent Translation – A Beginner’s Guide

February 3, 2023/in Medical, Translation/by Robert James

The globally connected world of today offers great opportunities for growth and success for all businesses. Whether it is the tech industry, engineering, or medical, businesses are focusing on expansion beyond borders. The medical and healthcare industry is also not far behind in this quest for expansion. Translation plays a vital role in ensuring medical companies achieve this goal smoothly.

The medical industry relies on expert translators to get translations of their documents, such as case files, records, research, and even medical patents. This medical patent translation may seem like a challenge, but it is easily done by professional linguists who understand the nuances of translating complex documents.

Here is all you need to know about the translation of medical patents.

What is a Medical Patent?

A patent is a legal instrument that gives the patent holder the exclusive right to make, sell, or offer to sell the subject matter which the patent “claims”. Mostly relating to clinical trials and pharmaceuticals, medical patents may include methods of making or using them. A medical patent may also include important medical information such as medical treatment regimens, surgical procedures, medical device information, and healthcare technology guidelines.

Similar to legal documents, a medical patent is a protection granted by a government. It protects the inventor of a unique medical product, process, or technology against market competition. Moreover, a medical patent prevents the patented invention from being reproduced, sold, or used by others for a limited time.

An example of a medical patent is a drug produced by a biotech company. The company can use this patent to protect its intellectual property rights, against generic competition for a set time. By protecting this drug with a patent, the company can sell the drug for high profits, while compensating for the costly research and development for bringing it to market.

The Main Goal of a Medical Patent Translation

The foremost goal of a medical patent is to provide a unique selling or marketing advantage to the inventor. It limits the usability of any aspect of the subject matter of the patent for a certain amount of time. The patent stops the competitors from using or imitating the patent.

A medical patent is utilized by biotech companies, physicians, and universities. The translation of a medical patent is a critical but tough task, owing to the legal implications of the patent. An expert medical translator who is adept at handling medical document translation has to perform medical patent translation. In doing so, he has to carefully consider the terms and conditions mentioned in the patent, along with other legal matters such as authorization and access. Particular care has to be taken during the translation of medical patents as any error in translation can have huge legal implications for all the concerned stakeholders.

During the filing of a patent in a foreign language, every term of the patent needs to be translated as accurately as possible. This is because even a small error can result in a legal loophole that would lead to the exploitation of intellectual property. This is the main reason why the chosen translation agency should have expert medical translators for translating complex medical patents and their contents.

Types of Medical Patent Translation

Just like other patents, a medical patent also holds a legal value that needs proper handling and authorization. The patent translation can be divided into two types–filing translations and information translations. Both may seem the same, but they are intended for specific audiences and serve different purposes. When this specific purpose is highlighted, only then a medical company can choose the right translation service for its needs.

  • Filing Translation

In filing translation, the patent document is used for the official record in the patent application process. The intended audience of the filing translation patent consists of patent officials, legal professionals, and patent licensees who examine the application. This type of translation can be concise, clear, and light in jargon. The main purpose of this type of patent translation is to convey the meaning of the invention as comprehensively as possible so that the patent can be filed correctly.

  • Translation for Information

Information translation for medical patents involves the accurate description of the invention as well as its inner workings. It is mostly used as a complement for patents that have already been filed, especially as evidence in court proceedings. This type is mostly handled by court officials as well as industry experts. The type of information translation must be as close to the original as possible, with all specifications and related terms. Moreover, an information translation is useless on its own. In order for it to be effective, it must have its filed counterpart.

Why are Professional Patent Translation Services Required?

A professional patent translation for medical patents is essential as it ensures that the patent translation is error-free and minimizes the risk of any rejection. However, a bad-quality translation means that international patents cannot be enforced properly.

Professional patent translation ensures that the translation is carried out within time so that all patent application deadlines can be met. Conclusively, hiring a professional translation service for medical patent translation saves money. If a medical company hires a translation agency that offers a cheap quote but lacks all the relevant skills and experience, it may need to retranslate its patents, causing a whole lot of cost hassles.

The Use of Machine Translation in Medical Patent Translation

Machine translation may be fast and efficient, but it comes with its own set of controversies when it comes to medical patent translation. There is no denying that machine translation has made incredible progress over the last couple of decades as well as shown remarkable results in some fields.

Machine translation is used widely in medical patent translation when paired with post-editing. There are various machine translation tools specifically available for patents such as European Patent Office (EPO), Patent Translate, and WIPO Translate.

Machine translation offers many advantages, the most important ones of which are being scalable, fast, and cost-effective. There are two factors that must be kept in consideration when deciding if machine translation is the best option for a medical patent. A medical company should make sure that the patent translation is always reviewed by a professional translator. This translator should have a specialization in medical patent translation and should be well aware of the requirements of the country or region where the company is filing the medical patent.

Essential Factors for a Medical Patent Translation

As mentioned above, a medical patent needs to be carefully translated in order for it to be efficiently used in another area or region. These are some of the essential features that a translated medical patent must have:

High quality

A certified medical patent translator understands the importance of a flawless translation, particularly if it is related to the medical field. He will ensure that the final patent meets all the requirements set by local laws of medical patents. Owing to the application process, the medical patent translation will run smoothly without any delays and you won’t have to worry about miscommunications.

Fast

Timing is crucial in patent applications – the later you submit it to the patent office, the higher the risk of your idea being exploited. Professional translation agencies can offer you the fastest services due to streamlined translation processes and procedures – thanks to this they can provide high-quality translation in the shortest time possible.

Error-free

As we already mentioned, even small mistakes can bury your chances of obtaining IP protection. Hiring professional translators minimizes the risk of faulty translation and ensures the correct filing of your patent.

Cost-efficient

Despite being expensive, professional translation services can save you a lot of money. How? The answer is quite easy – you’ll only pay once as there won’t be any need for later fixes or redoing the whole thing. So, while looking for a translator, keep in mind that a lower price doesn’t always equal lower overall costs – it’s better to pay more for an expert than having to fix rookie mistakes made by a cheaper alternative.

How to Ensure Effective Dental Translations?

December 28, 2022/in Translation/by Robert James

The field of dentistry is a complex one. Although dentists are responsible for providing seamless services to their patients, certain barriers can hinder this smooth service. Translation and interpretation in dental practices and services have long been a problem for many dentists worldwide. Perhaps this is the reason why there are some tips on how to ensure effective dental translations can go a long way in ensuring smooth patient care for dental patients.

Dentists across the world treat patients belonging to different cultures and languages. This is the reason why it is crucial for a dentist to employ translation services. It would help them bridge the gap between their languages and the patients’ languages.

Although treating a patient who speaks a different language may seem like a big challenge, it is actually easy to achieve. All you have to do is hire a professional translation partner to ease the translation challenge for you.

Here, we will share some tips that will help you connect and communicate with your patients without worrying about language barriers. But, let us explore the benefits of taking professional assistance for dental translation first.

How Dental Translations are Beneficial?

Multilingualism in the medical field is an opportunity not to be missed by doctors and healthcare professionals. As the population increases, you can expect patients of different languages to visit your clinic. Do you speak more than one language? You may be in a favorable position to treat patients who speak multiple languages. However, if you do not know any other language besides your own, you may require professional help.

Here are all the benefits you can gain from dental translations:

1. A chance to get more patients

If you can communicate in your patients’ language, you stand a better chance of getting more patients in your clinic. Suppose there are only a few dental practices in your town. All of them compete for the same clientele. Now suppose there is only one dental clinic in town that has an advertisement sign providing dental services in the Spanish language. Without a doubt, Spanish-speaking patients will visit for dental treatment at this clinic.

Now suppose that a patient understands and speaks only the French language and you provide your dental services in the English language. When you communicate the dental procedures or the medication the patient should take, he will naturally be unable to comprehend a word. Here, a French dental translator or an interpreter can make this communication easier by translating instructions from English to French.

2. Establishes a connection with patients

As a dentist, it is imperative for you to connect with your patients on a deeper level. This is because when a patient sits in that dental chair for a procedure, he loses his power of speech temporarily. The only interesting thing that can keep him going is the chat that the dentist delivers. If the dentist speaks in a language that the patient cannot understand, he will be unable to understand the dentist’s chatter.

Being multilingual or getting dental translations can greatly aid you in connecting with your patients at a deeper level. It might even ease the pain of the dental procedure. Furthermore, by establishing a connection with your patients, you can get a chance for a reputable dental and medical service for your patients.

Helps to recruit multilingual staff

If you are a dentist, you probably have an idea of how hard it is to:

  • Build up your dental practice
  • Keep track of the latest dental surgical procedures
  • Learn new languages at the same time

To make your job easier, you can hire staff that speaks and converses in more than one language. Getting a multilingual staff member can greatly help you in communicating all the details of your dental procedure to your patients effectively. If you reside in a city with a sizeable foreign language-speaking population, hiring a multilingual staff member can help you with a smooth dental procedure. A bilingual staff member can also take calls from your prospective patients and secure appointments with them easily.

3. Aids in smooth advertising

Want to provide your dental services to a foreign-language population? Translate your website and content into multiple languages. Your dental website can be translated to cater to a wider audience, possibly one that is located in another region or country. Likewise, translation is needed for dental software. You may even consider getting your advertisements and brochures translated into multiple languages. It will help to communicate your services to a greater number of people.

Translation of website and print media is not the only opportunity you can use to connect with a wider audience. You can also get your advertisements translated into multiple languages in order to communicate with the audience. If your dental practice has a Facebook page, you can publish or translate posts into the language that your patients speak. Other than that, you can also use translated informed consent forms in other languages to make the paperwork easier for patients.

4. Aids in acquiring dental equipment

Being a dentist is a hard job, especially if you want to keep your dental practice running along with connecting with your patients. To ensure your practice is smooth and productive, you may need surgical and dental types of equipment from other countries. This is where you will need to connect with people and companies that speak other languages. In this way, you will be in a better position to acquire dental equipment from foreign companies.

5. Helps you to specialize in dental practice

As a dentist, specialization in dentistry is a part of your profession. If you speak more than one language, you can get your dentistry specialization from foreign universities as well. Other than that, if you have the support of a translation agency, you can also get your specialization from online universities in different languages. Remember, being multilingual will enhance and widen your skill set. It will allow you to deliver better dental services to a greater number of patients.

Moreover, you can also equip yourself with dental technical knowledge from other countries or medical institutes. It can aid you in participating in international medical and dental conferences and forums.

Tips for Dental Translations

Now that you know the many benefits of getting dental translation services, here are a few tips for you. These can help you and your patients be better prepared for a successful dental procedure, especially if your languages are not the same:

1. Get the help of an interpreter

If you want to work with an interpreter during your dental procedures, there are a few tips to ensure smooth communication with the patient. Be sure to speak directly with your patient and his/her family, instead of talking to the interpreter. Do not look at the interpreter and ask them if they can ask a patient about something. Instead, look at the patient and ask the question you want to ask directly. This will keep the conversation patient-centric and helps you to build your reputation well, allowing you to connect with your patients.

As a dentist, keeping the patient engaged and making them feel like your main priority should be your top concern. If you focus too much on the interpreter, your patient may feel disengaged from the conversation. It is best to have an interpreter available in person, via video chat, or by phone. Although you may not need to hire a professional interpreter, it is recommended to have a staff member who can converse in multiple languages. When conversating with an interpreter, speak slowly and clearly to ensure the information you are trying to communicate is conveyed properly and understood as well.

2. Be prepared beforehand

Being a dentist requires a proactive approach, especially when you have patients who speak other languages. Be prepared beforehand and plan which translation service you have access to and how you can easily access this service. Understand that getting hold of a translator can be tough and time-consuming. It is better to try and book a translator in advance for accurate translations. It will help to avoid any delays for your patients. Other than this, you can also work with your reception team beforehand. This team can ask your patients if they want a translator before making an appointment and registration.

3. Understand the requirements

Before you venture into hiring a translator to aid you during the dental procedure, it is important to know the requirements beforehand. In order for the consent to be valid, it is necessary that the patient understands the information before communicating his decision. In order for this to happen, it is essential not to use a biased source for translation.

Some relatives of the patient may volunteer to do the translation for you. Avoid falling into this trap as it might lead to false translations. Although it might seem convenient to get the help of a relative, there is no way of ensuring the information conveyed to the patient is not changed in some manner. The same goes for colleagues, as they may also change the information being conveyed to suit their own motives.

Even though colleagues can sometimes offer help, there is a risk of misinterpretation and mistranslation. This is because their own knowledge of dental practice may influence the translation. This will not be suitable for a patient they have not examined. Tread carefully when choosing a translator for your dental services. It’s recommended to choose professional dentistry translation services for a hassle-free experience.

4. Learn the basics

Although you can always hire professionals to do the translation job for you, it is better if you are familiar with some basic greetings or words of a foreign language that your patient knows. Learn small phrases such as “hello, how are you?” or “thank you”. Speaking even a small phrase of greeting can put a patient at ease and allow you to make a meaningful and deep connection with the patient. It can also build a favorable reputation for you and your dental service. Learn the basics of any language online through applications and programs. Apply for learning a few common phrases and terminologies related to dentistry. It will help you convey medical information to the patient easily and effectively. In case you are performing an oral examination, you should know which phrases to use to ask the patient to open and close the mouth.

5. Make use of written material

Apart from using oral interpretation services to convey information, written documents are also important in ensuring smooth communication. You should always have translated documents ready for your patients after their procedures. These written documents are necessary so that your patients are aware of the at-home care and after-care and prescription directions. Many medical translation services are available that can have all the written content translated for you. Other than that, you can also hire a person who can translate and write the information related to your procedure. Such a person can translate your after-care documents as well as type them for your patients.

6. Be creative in communication

Communicating and conveying information to a foreign-language-speaking patient can be a daunting task.  That’s why you should always have a translator ready on the phone or at the practice before proceeding with the appointment.

If getting a translator ready beforehand is not possible, you can always use creative means to convey your information to your patient. You can use a “number finger” system with your patient. For example, if your patient wants to ask a question, you can get them to point one finger up during a session. You could also convey to them to get three fingers up if they are not feeling well.

In order to be creative, it is first important to convey different signals to your patient even before the procedure starts. For example, if your patient is having chest pains but does not know how to communicate this, it may have devastating consequences. You can convey to the patient at the start of the appointment to hold up three fingers if he is having chest pains. Doing so will ensure the situation does not get out of hand in case of an emergency. It may also give the patient a greater sense of control.

7. Plan together with your team

Demonstrating teamwork before and during your dental procedure can be helpful in ensuring a good reputation for your dental service. If you know one of the staff members or nurses knows the language that your patient speaks, consider planning beforehand and work with them before the appointment. An unbiased colleague can help in ensuring smooth communication with a patient throughout the procedure. Nevertheless, you can try to widen your team to include translators and interpreters who can easily communicate in the language of your patients.

8. Keep a check

It is important to keep a check on your patient during and after an appointment. Never assume that your patient understands the information that you are trying to communicate. Use a teach-back method in order to ensure you and the patient are on the same page. Allow the patient and his family members to convey back the information you have just given to them. By using this method, you will be able to know if they understand your procedures and after-care instructions.

9. Get help from dental translators

Translation of dental material and content can be a tough and daunting task for you. This is why it is always better to take the help of professional translators or medical translation agencies. A dental translation agency will help you in communicating instructions to your patients during an appointment. It will also ensure all the services related to dentistry are translated accurately.

For example, if you plan on establishing communication with a firm supplying dental equipment, you can hire a translation agency. A professional translation agency will also translate other marketing material for your dental services. These can include websites and software.

Moreover, with the help of a dental translation partner, you can ensure hassle-free and smooth communication with your patients for a beneficial dental procedure.

Key Takeaway

Dental procedures and practices are an important part of the medical field. To ensure smooth dental procedures, it is crucial to establish communication with your patients. However, in cases where the patients do not speak or understand your language, you may need the support of a dental translator. Here a certified dental translation agency can help to interpret or translate the dental information for you. By getting this information translated into the language that your patient speaks, you can ensure uninterrupted dental service for your patients.

International Translation Day

September 28, 2022/in Translation/by Robert James

In this article, we are going to talk about the International Day of Translation which is celebrated every year on the 30th of September.

What Is The International Translation Day?

“Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture.” – Anthony Burgess

International Translation Day is celebrated on September 30 every year to commemorate translators’ work in the language field. Translators play an essential role in ensuring a dialogue between countries that contribute to the growth and strengthen world peace.

Translators play an important role in enhancing effective communication between people from different regions. We live in a globalized world, but language barriers curb effective communication. To convey your idea to a person living in another part of the world, it’s imperative that you talk in the native language. Now it’s very difficult for a person to learn a new language just to greet someone. Hence, translators jump in to bridge such gaps.

Before we jump into the Importance of this day, let’s discuss the history of International translation day.

A Brief Overview of The History of The International Translation Day

Since the U.N.’s beginning, translators have played an essential role in bringing all nations onto a single platform. To achieve sustainable development, the UN believes, it is imperative to appreciate different civilizations and unique cultures.

The U.N. perceives the efforts of proficient translators as an artistic expression and exchange. Translators submit to the Sanction of the UN and merit worldwide acknowledgment. Embracing the goal of the UN General Gathering on May 24, 2017, September 30 is perceived as the UN International Translation Day. This day’s motivation is to praise the commitment of language specialists to advancing harmony, advancement, and kinship between semantically particular nations.

International Translation Day also coincides with the celebration of St. Jerome, a scholar, and priest who is believed to have been the very first translator of the Bible. In the past, thousands of years ago, St. Jerome set out on an adventure for the translation of the Bible. St. Jerome is called the patron saint of translators because of his efforts in making the Bible available to a larger audience.

We observe International Translation Day by reminding people about the importance of professional translation and paying attention to this fact: the merging of languages shows that the unity of the world resulted from diversity.

Why It Is Important To Celebrate The International Translation Day?

“Translation is that which transforms everything so that nothing changes.” – Günter Grass

There are plenty of things to be grateful to professionals who are translators or interpreters. With the advent of technology, which has decreased physical borders, Language specialists have made connections between people from different cultures and countries.

Translators are worthy of recognition since they can make this happen regardless of barriers to communication in terms of language and culture.

But, most times, translators are a backstage presence, particularly when involved in technical and commercial translation projects. Although they are essential in overcoming communication obstacles, they don’t receive the respect they need.

If you are reading a user guide or the instructions on a box of medicine, but you do not think about the person who spent countless days searching for the correct combination of words to ensure you have everything you require. However, without their precision and attention to detail, daily tasks would be complex for us.

In this scenario, the importance of Translation day becomes even more prominent. We have shortlisted some aspects which promulgate the notion of celebrating translators worldwide.

●    Translators Make the World Go Round

The years 2017-2021 were the most successful for this industry. The world sector of language services earned revenue in the range of $46.52 billion. Every day, thousands of linguists and language experts offer services for interpreting, translating, and localization services for both private and commercial clients.

It’s among the industries that are growing in the present, thanks to the increasing demand for services in the language field across the world. Businesses are looking to expand beyond the borders of their own countries, and NGOs are looking to establish a global presence in government agencies, as well as travelers between countries.

Everyone needs translators and interpreters to break down the language barrier, to develop and prosper in a globalized world where effective communication has become the key to success.

Translators aid businesses of all kinds connect with their local audience in the native language of their target audience. Non-profits and businesses can connect with their audience and strengthen their positions in each regional market they visit.

●    Translators Contribute to Making Our World A Better Place

“If the translator does his job as he should, he is a benefactor of humanity; otherwise he is a veritable public enemy.” – Miguel Sanz

Besides their crucial importance in the growth of the global economy, professional translators also contribute to improving the world in various ways. As of May 2017, for instance, the United Nations acknowledged that language service providers connect nations, facilitate dialogue between countries, and aid in world peace.

As part of the UN Resolution, which establishes the International Translation Day on September 30th, the organization calls on state members to educate themselves on the importance of skilled translators and interpreters in today’s world.

●    Translators Deserve Recognition Because They Help People Progress

Technical translators are employed in industries that require 100% accuracy, like high-tech medical and science. They translate research findings, medical notes, studies, and journals, allowing specialists who speak various languages to work together regardless of communication issues.

Over the years, the scientists of our time have had to communicate their knowledge by translating information in all areas, ranging from mathematics to chemistry and even medicine. Even now, in a time when many scientists are fluent in English and work with professional translators can enhance the quality of research conducted by international teams.

●    Translators Bring People Together

“Without translation, we would be living in provinces bordering on silence.” – George Steiner

Translators can reduce the distances between people by bringing people with similar interests. Think of all the content you would not have access to without translation services.

Literature has a wealth of examples. Dostoyevsky, Kafka, Dumas, and Stieg Larsson are just a few examples of authors who would be a mystery to English-speaking readers without the efforts of translators.

Outside of literature, the volume of content that is translated is greater. Films, international news apps, software games, social media platforms, and eCommerce websites. A lot of your favorite apps wouldn’t be noticed without translation.

However, people who are not English-speaking will be grateful to the translators who helped with Shakespeare, The Game of Thrones, Fortnite, Minecraft, and online shopping on Amazon and other sites, not to mention just a tiny fraction of the translators doing their job.

Many translators, interpreters, linguists, and translators reduce the distance between people and nations by allowing local populations access to information in hundreds of languages.

●    Hundreds of Millions of People Use Translations

Translators are people who rewrite the text into another language so that it is available to more people. Google Translate alone performs millions of translations daily with around 200 million people. But the amount of people who utilize translated content is far more.

Consider blogs and articles, instructions for use, medicines recipe labels, and other technical details that manufacturers and creators translate to their customers. Think about news, films, games, videos, and different kinds of media translated to large audiences.

The majority of content we encounter daily is translated into an additional language by professional translators. Most of the time, people don’t think about the efforts that go into those subtitles below the screen while watching a film.

But, the translator’s work is a vital part of making the film a global success, which is why translators should be recognized for their work.

●    Translators Add Cultural Value

As more businesses establish their global presence, the demand to provide translation and services for localization has grown dramatically. The companies now need to translate their products into local languages and adapt them to local markets to sell. They have to move beyond simple translation and create a new strategy for marketing to make contact with potential foreign customers.

“Writers make national literature, while translators make universal literature.” – José Saramago

Language specialists play an essential part in this. Translators and experts in localization contribute value by re-creating the context and writing the content with the “local” approach. Suppose a brand is launching within South America, for example. In that case, it is possible that translating the content to Spanish might not be enough to make it popular with the local population.

People in Mexico have different dialects than people who live in Argentina. Professional translators can utilize local slang and social stereotypes to present a manner that benefits the target audience and the brand.

●    Translators and Interpreters Are Essential for International Law

The human rights world isn’t possible without interpreters and translators. Language service providers spend hundreds of hours translating reports, testimony, and news documents that are later used in courtrooms and aid the legal system in executing justice.

In addition, interpreters and translators ensure everyone gets equal treatment in courtrooms, whether they’re witnesses, plaintiffs, or other parties in the proceedings.

Another area in which translators can contribute significantly is in the field of healthcare. Interpreters and medical translators ensure that patients have access to high-quality medical care even if they experience issues communicating due to a lack of communication skills.

Hospitals often depend on experienced experts in the language field to deal with international patients. They can obtain the necessary medical information to provide the appropriate treatment.

Concluding Remarks

Translators spread information and promote sharing of thoughts on an international scale. Translators play an essential role in how information and knowledge circulate across the globe, eliminating barriers to communication and bringing people closer. Whether they are employed in commercial or NGO, translators transform the world and provide the value of culture.

Hence, it is important to recognize their efforts. And the least we can do is associate an entire day to celebrate their commitment to the world of translation. So happy International translation day everyone!

Transcription and Translation – Everything You Need to Know

September 19, 2022/in General, Tips & Advice, Translation/by Robert James

The translation is a tricky process and involves a lot more terms as its subfields depend on the niches and industries translation is required. It is a complex process and interrelated with multiple phrases. Transcription and translation are often used with each other. People may take these as similar, however, these have differences in several terms. The language services consider both as a process of translation. Translation and transcription both are used for the same purpose though i.e to bridge the language gap.

What are transcription and translation?

In order to understand both terms and to know their right use, it is imperative to understand both terms.

Transcription

Transcribe comes from Latin which states a process where trans is for over and scriber is for writing.

It deals with a scenario where a person has to listen to an audio file and pen down the content which is said or spoken in that particular audio. The listener has to copy the audio content as it is said in the file word to word and in the same language which is used by the speaker.

A person who performs this activity is called a transcriber.

Translation

It is a process where a person transforms written content from one language to another language. The first language is the source language and another language is the target language.

This term has its origin in the old French verb ‘translater’ and the Latin verb translates implying how the meaning is carried over.

A translator is called out to perform this process of translation.

Whenever a customer comes with an audio file for translation, the audio file is first transcribed i.e written in the same language, and later it is translated to the target language.

Translation vs Transcription – Historical background

Translation and transcription have evolved over the centuries and have come a long way.

History of translation

The process of translation has also a rich historical background. It comes from the Mesopotamian era where Sumerian poems and Gilgamesh got translated into other Asian languages due to their popularity. People wanted to read but could not understand the original language. This is dated back to the second millennium BC. A lot of Buddhist monks also translated the Indian documents and Sanskrit content into the Chinese language.

History of transcription

The transcription process is not new and it was there in ancient times too. It dates back to 3400 BCE. People back in both days used to get training in transcription to get employed in roman and Egyptian times.

However, it got on hold as well and was not paid much attention until the 19th century more than 200 years later. It was after the typewriter was invented that transcription started getting common and it was much more in practice in the U.S as compared to other regions.

Difference between transcription and translation

Several language service providers (LSP) provide services in transcription and translation. Also, people find these terms similar, how are these not? Both of these are involved in different processes and have their own practices and outcomes which make them different.

Transcription

Transcription services are availed in different scenarios where people hire these services for consultations, interviews, seminars, and conferences. The process of transcription serves multiple industries and sectors including media, entertainment, medical, education, and politics with civil services too.

Transcription, as we know represents the language in its written forms. However, multiple processes and applications are being mentioned here to put great emphasis on how it is different from the process of translation. The debate about transcription vs translation never gets old.

  • The audio file which is coming for the transcription could be in a speech form or sign language. It not only is accompanied by verbal sources but also includes existing content that is prepared in the different writing systems.
  • When we talk about academic linguistics, transcription has a great significance which tells the system of methods that come with sociolinguistics, dialectology conversation analysis, and also its phonetics. Transcription has an extremely important role to play in the subfields of speech technology.
  • Medical transcription is the other example of it. Transcription is very common in the medical field and is very beneficial for physicians as well as patients. Most physicians provide recorded voice notes for patients to provide written copies of patients’ medical history. Transcription ensures that patients get the best medical healthcare regardless of location and geographical boundaries.
  • Advertising companies also make most of the transcription. It helps the companies to transcribe audio and video file and content material to ensure that the promotional message and context remains the same as in the original file. This is done to showcase products that advertising agencies have to offer in the foreign market.
  • Unlike a translator, a transcriber has to deal with one language therefore he is expected to be really good at the given language knowing its nuances and dialects.
  • As the transcriber is only concerned with the content and its information so colloquial expressions are not necessarily needed.
  • A transcriber deals with two different formats from recorded to written.

So these are major differences between transcription and translation.

Translation

Here comes the translation and its differences with the process of transcription. Both these terms are related to working with languages. Therefore, both need the services of linguists who are proficient in the required languages.

  • Translation deals with at least two languages which include source and target languages, unlike transcription which has to handle one language only.
  • Translators most of the time have to deal with the written content. However, there are cases where clients require the translator to translate content from audio and video recording of the source material. In that case, the translator will have to look for the services of the transcriber and then he can further translate the file.
  • A translator has to be extremely skilled and talented while being good at creative writing to deliver the intended message from the source document to the target language accurately.
  • Translation has been playing an extremely vital role in the process of globalization and multiculturalism in facilitating the masses’ mutual understanding and building effective communication among people who speak different languages. Once the content is translated it allows people to access it more easily which helps to reach content to a wider audience. As we consider the legal aspect of making people from different ethnicities access content shows acceptance and diversity.
  • Translation deals with one form of content only which is written content.

Two main categories of translation

It further has two categories to handle.

1.    Literary

Literary content translation deals with the content which is presented in the form of poems, stories novels, and fiction writing.

2.    Non-literary

Non-literary content is about the translation of legal scientific, technical, and other defined documents which may require translation for multiple purposes.

The translator has to be really proficient in the target language. Therefore, it is always suggested to work with native speakers as translators as no one can have a better understanding of a language than a native one. Also, he understands the cultures well, their nuances, jargon, idioms slang, and phrasal expressions among grammatical differences too.

Transcription vs Translation – Similarities

Translation and transcription differ from each other as well as share similarities too. The similarities between transcription and translation are there.

The basic similarity between both is the function of helping people understand each other. Transcription deals with one language and translation have to deal with two languages. These languages come from the original language as a source and the target language as the final one. However, both processes work for the facilitation of language information and communication.

More similarities include

  • Both processes are used by businesses to expand their business and to cater to the potential market for monetary purposes globally.

The services of both features are required in

  • Group discussions
  • Interviews
  • Academic lectures
  • Industry conferences
  • Depositions
  • Market research
  • Translation and transcription are also beneficial for online resources. The podcasts of transcripts are important for people who are hearing impaired. Similarly, translation includes subtitles for the video materials which come from foreign markets so that people can understand each video they are watching and can enjoy it.
  • Translators also translate the transcripted content so that they can target the audiences at a wider level. This is how transcription and translation can work together.
  • These are similar in the way that they improve the medium of communication between two individuals, parties, and businesses, always working in the favor of people. They provide opportunities for people from all over the world to communicate and get communicated while understanding each other well.

Clarity about both terms

Even though the process share similarities and differences too. However, similarities between transcription and translation don’t imply that these two as one. Transcription can only be penned down what is there in the form of recorded format either audio or video. It requires the content and transcription in exactly the same language which is there in the original language.

Translation, whereas work on two languages taking content from one language and translating it to the other such as English to Spanish or Spanish to French. The job of a translator requires him to be proficient in both languages. Translation’s purpose mainly serves the motive of carrying the meaning of language from one language to other.

Translation vs Transcription – Future

Businesses from all over the world are now into transcription and translation and there is no looking back for both practices and this industry. Companies are recording massive amounts of video content and audio either for their customers overseas or at times for internal use as well.

Speech technology has gained accuracy over the years. Voice-to-text is a real thing and services are provided by a lot of vendors. It is also a highly-paid job. Artificial intelligence has also been playing a vital role in the evolution and success of transcription.

Transcription processes and transcribers intend to improve the quality of speech recognition technology and voice-to-text methods a lot better with the help of advanced technology.

The translation industry has been on a boom like never before. It is growing at a fast pace. Globalization has made it expand in no time, unlike other industries. The translation industry has managed to reach $45 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach even more in the future years. Increased demand for translation has created enormous opportunities and has enabled translators to earn millions annually offering a promising future for the industry and the people involved.

Final Words

Translation and transcription are often considered the same by people. However, these both practices are carried out to facilitate people who do not speak the same language. There are differences and similarities as well. The growing trend of internationalization has been the backbone of the translation industry making both practices evident for effective expansions overseas.

September 16, 2022/in Business, General, Translation/by Robert James

Building a fruitful translation and interpretation career requires a lot of responsibility. Get to know every one of the insider facts and tips on turning into a first-rate interpreter.

The translation market has multiplied in size throughout recent years — from $29B in 2011 to $56B in 2021. This makes the translation profession a satisfying and practical career choice for understudies and ongoing alums.

Becoming a well-paid translator requires more than communicating in at least two dialects. Experts proclaim that to make a mark in the translation business; a translator must possess the skill of inculcating various translation tools and understanding the target audience’s demand and how they will understand a translation.

What Compels An Interpretation Profession?

Finding lasting success as a translator relies upon many elements. The language blend an interpreter, most importantly, chooses to work with can gauge how much interest there might be for working in translation.

Translation industry experts often claim that it might be more straightforward to find in-house project executives’ occupations than in-house interpretation occupations. That is why understudies ought to think intelligently and strategically about their language decisions.

Besides, the expert setting an interpreter engages in can be unmistakable for the interpretation required. Some favor working at a translation agency connecting with the worldwide local area. While others at a venture on target for worldwide development.

Simultaneously, a profession as an interpreter appeals to some who value the adaptability of functioning as a consultant from any place and whenever. This independence permits them to settle on (pretty much) every part of their interpretation profession.

Regardless of how they pick, translators should constantly pay special attention to chances to develop. Those glad to go past their usual range of familiarity and be proficient in each situation will continuously be popular, no matter the business.

What Does It Take To Turn Into A Translator?

Turning into an interpreter takes both ability and steadiness to find success. Experts affirm that they never had an understudy who was sharp, capitalized on their preparation program and translation services open doors accessible to them, and didn’t have some work or a promising independent career before graduating.

Since in-house translation occupations can be scant, translators frequently work on an independent premise. This often requires proactive and dominating systems administration abilities to track open doors and construct a profession.

The number of expert affiliations effectively inviting learner interpreters — at nearby, public, and global levels — has filled a great deal lately.

What to study To Turn Into a Translator?

There are a few things that youthful translators who are beginning their career need to remember, whether they’re expecting to find lasting success.

Market and Feline Instrument Information

As per the European Language Industry Review 2020 (ELIS), new alums still lack business sector mindfulness and cycle information concerning translation services. Moreover, nearly half of the language service organizations found interpretation innovation abilities in graduates lacking or non-existent.

It’s implied that any translation work would require excellent language abilities and magnificent social information both on the source and target side, close by a profound comprehension of the most recent innovations and market patterns.

Putting resources into every one of the three from the very first moment is advantageous. Utilizing innovation won’t guarantee that your translations are exact and mistake-free, but it can save you time by naturally translating a text you’ve deciphered previously.

Instead of considering yourself to be the main piece of the riddle, an additional helpful viewpoint comes from getting comfortable with interpretation and restriction work processes from beginning to end, as well as the vital participants influenced by your work.

Such work processes include parcels of a more significant number of patrons than certain interpreters envision: Limitation directors, terminologists, different interpreters, or revisers are only a couple of the extra jobs that rely upon individual translators finishing their work on time. This empowers them to keep dealing with an interpretation or localization project.

Centered Area Specialization

Translators never work in a vacuum. Regularly, you’d have to translate the most recent discoveries and reports in a specific industry. For instance, if you give clinical translation services, you should consistently follow a logical leap forward in medication. This detailed information will ensure that your capacity to convey the message in objective language is spot on.

Professional translators recommend people pursuing a career as a translator to concentrate on one specialized field at first and afterward add to it as their career advances. Picking your specialty will rely upon many elements — from your advantages to showcase interest. Many studies report that the most noteworthy development businesses are fabricating, life sciences, and programming. Then again, retail, distribution, and the public area show some easing back patterns.

Understanding Client Needs

This probably won’t seem the most natural thing to study, yet it’s urgent to be proficient in a fruitful language. Whether or not you fill in as an independent translator or you’re utilized in-house, understanding your client’s requirements will guarantee that you generally convey an excellent final result.

This requires posing incredible testing inquiries and making a reasonable level of effort at the start of the venture. There’s a distinction if you work straightforwardly with a client or you’re recruited through an office. When you have direct admittance to the client, ensure you request clear guidelines and feel free to challenge them if something doesn’t seem OK. Sometimes, clients may be off track, and you must offer the best arrangement without being impolite or disparaging.

Translation organizations (LSP) mostly do this for themselves and have an unmistakable comprehension of the client’s requirements. Be that as it may, ensure you read the fine print in your agreement on what occurs in the event of client disappointment. On the off chance that you’re the only one considered capable should a client gripe or be discontent with an item, then, at that point, you may be in an ideal situation tracking down one more translation agency to work with.

Similarly, plan to translate as though there were no reviser, editor, or manager on the opposite finish to look at your work. Different translation organizations have additional updates and audit principles. While some probably won’t do the base measure of updates settled on with their clients, others could do a simple spell-check instead of a definite text modification.

Then again, clients themselves can be cleared up by the most recent mechanical promotion, anticipating that PCs should perform better compared to people on each undertaking. Try not to take care of the publicity by conveying messy work! Quality, characterized by the undertaking brief, should continuously be your primary concern!

How To Become A Translator?

As per the ELIS review, around 40% of those entering the calling have done such after having a past profession in another field. Meanwhile, 44% became translators after graduating in interpretation and choose literary translation careers.

As a rule, careers in translation have no age hindrance to entering, and previous involvement with another industry can be a resource in your job as a translator. Simultaneously, this doesn’t imply that translation services are open to all. Probably the most popular ISO principles in the translation business remember constructive ideas for the preparation and experience expected from linguists to convey a top-notch item.

Generally,  translating careers require a ton of devotion and interest in time and assets to get familiar with your objective dialects, ace the source and target societies, as well as your area specialisms, set yourself up as a business, and get acquainted with the most recent language innovations.

Associate with the more extensive expert local area

The two mediators and interpreters rely upon their more extensive organization to track down clients and keep them awake to date with the most recent improvements in the business. If you’re contemplating becoming a translator, it’s wise to track down the nearby and public associations accessible locally and get familiar with their expert rules. Translators are unique concerning mediators, as the last option deciphers verbally progressively, starting with one language and then onto the next. A profession in translation includes composing instead of talking, albeit numerous translator careers these days use innovation, like voice acknowledgment.

Interpretations provided by such agencies are very beneficial, but they often are a bit expensive for middle-class individuals. However, if you are a medical institution looking for market expansion, then medical translation agencies can help you quite significantly.

2. Decreased Weights

Certain medical care offices do have not many mediators ready to give a translation, especially in a quick time period. The sit-tight time for mediators can in some cases be as many as 25 minutes.

Discourse to-discourse innovation could address the holding up time issue, which puts less staff pressure while additionally expanding patients’ proficiency. That measure of efficiency in medical care is a principal objective of most clinic overseers.

3. Improved Quality and Exactness

Precision can be a monstrous issue in interpretation and understanding. Typically, the mediators aren’t the ones additionally finishing up the desk work. It’s fundamental to guarantee that what one says in a single language is precisely reflected in another.

Vulnerability can altogether influence the course of protection repayment and charging and the administration of medical services records. As patients and specialists sit together in a trade that is kept in the two unique dialects on a screen, they will actually want to see whether there’s a blunder or something that should be explained. There’s no chance to pause, and individuals in the room can make quick amendments.

4. Portability

One more benefit of medical care interpretation applications is their adaptability. Contemplate the reinforcement clinics that could be holding up at the Crisis division’s affirmations counter because of the shortfall of translators.

An interpretation device conveyed to the trauma center in case of a need can chop down quite a standby time. Rather than holding on until individuals can find a translator, this innovation is open in medical clinics. It would build the nature of patient consideration and general medical care insight, and that implies patient fulfillment goes far up.

5. Clinical Applications

It’s not only helpful for the authoritative part of emergency clinic care but can likewise have a tremendous effect on the clinical part. You have three individuals in a discussion – the individual communicating in an unknown dialect, a translator, and the doctor.

It would be ideal for correspondence to stream unreservedly and equitably in a circumstance like this, however critical subtleties can be missed. The presence of two reports before a specialist and patient, one in their language and one more in the interpretation, permits specialists to decide whether the patient and their translator grasp their inquiries. Interpretation applications will empower us to catch the soul and plan of a doctor’s work to speak with a patient while staying away from discussions on the telephone. What’s more, in particular, individuals won’t ever miss the messages.

6. Fast And Efficient Access

Dissimilar to customary and wasteful phone access to doctors and medical care associations, some of the best medical translation apps empower patients to send secure messages, plan arrangements rapidly, and interface with suppliers day in and day out for telemedicine visits.

Medical applications are perhaps the quickest developing way patients utilize Health applications on their cell phones. They love the comfort of leading a supplier visit on their telephone or tablet and the way they don’t have to make a trip to the doctor’s office or get some much-needed rest work.

7. Enhances Prescription Adherence

Whenever patients are released from the emergency clinic or leave the facility, it’s hard to control whether or how they take their drugs. Or, on the other hand, honestly, on the off chance that they get it from the drug store by any stretch of the imagination. Unfortunate prescription adherence is a massive justification behind the painful administration of a patient’s persistent condition. It can likewise bring about medical clinic readmissions and tragic results.

Health applications and versatile innovation arrangements further develop this by giving patients highlights like computerized drug and top-off updates, and instructive data, further expanding the opportunity to take their meds appropriately.

The Significance of Business Translation in 2022

September 6, 2022/in Business, General, Translation/by Robert James

If there was a motto that could describe the current business environment, it would include, “Going Global”. This is a method that demands a strong international expansion. Companies looking to expand internationally have to address the problem of how to conquer language barriers. The majority of companies see business translation as the most effective solution when trying to formulate an international strategy. However, few companies can facilitate growth in their markets using business translation services.

Business translation is a crucial aspect of growth globally. If done correctly it can help increase the amount of exposure and revenues globally. This guide will teach you three key strategies to help you with business translation.

Understanding Business Translation

Business translation is an approach to translating a type of text into one or more targeted languages to facilitate global business operations. Companies can either rely on internal linguists of translation businesses or employ freelance translators. The choice is based on the size of the company and structure or the market they are penetrating into. So if the aim is to target the Spanish business community, taking assistance from Spanish business translation services is a viable option.

Understanding that business translation could need multiple translators is the initial step to understanding the best way to approach it.

It might seem obvious, however, it’s easy to ignore the amount of information that needs to be translated by a firm that is looking to expand into the international market.

Let’s examine three major kinds of business translation as well as their challenges and ways to meet these challenges in the future.

1. Translating Business Documents

Do you know the hundreds of documents that make up your business’ backbone? You can think of HR manuals, corporate style guides, and operation guidelines. Before you can introduce your product/service to a country, you will need to translate them all into the local language.

Multilingual and multinational companies often have multilingual employees. It is important to ensure that all staff is on the same page regarding policies, procedures, and guidelines. Another important factor is compliance. Allowing language barriers to hinder your employees’ ability to do their jobs could quickly escalate into a legal or compliance stalemate.

Challenge: Quantity and Fragmentation

The internal business documentation can be a lot of text and needs to be managed simultaneously. This quickly becomes a large project that has many moving parts when you consider how scattered they are among multiple stakeholders around the world.

Communication can become difficult when there are multiple team members. It becomes more difficult to track who is working on which task and how it should be divided up. Problems with version control may also arise. Hence, the translation of business documents is an arduous task.

Solution: Centralization and Coordination

It is not easy to overcome the problem of translating business documents within your company.

You must first centralize all business documentation within your organization into one multilingual hub. This knowledge base can be accessed by every department. This hub should serve as both a repository that can be accessed in multiple versions and as a point of truth for all employees who require a specific piece of content in any language.

You should also establish a central business translation workflow. This will allow for the organization and management of dispersed content. It will eliminate the need for non-synchronized or non-centralized translations across teams, departments, and employees around the world.

2. Translating Technical and Legal Documentation

Texts of technical and legal nature in different languages are one of the most difficult types of business translation. When dealing with multiple documents such as proceedings, registrations, filings, or user guides, the complexity can skyrocket. These types of text require a lot of expertise and use specific terminology.

Further complicating matters is the fact that legal and technical documentation is essential. Each document addressing legal and technical issues that you are expanding into another country must be translated fully. To preserve the accuracy and avoid any potential disputes or even fines, each document must be reviewed by an expert in the relevant field.

The technical documentation translation grouping on the other hand a wide range of scientific or technical texts, which range from user manuals, installation guides, and service guides to software strings, datasheets, and even service guides.

Challenge: Accuracy and Quality

Companies must meet very strict quality standards when it comes to legal and technical business document translation. These requirements can lead to fines, lawsuits, and public embarrassment.

This means that quality is paramount in this type of translation not only from a linguistic standpoint but also from compliance and corporate responsibility.

Each specialty in technical and legal translation has its terminology and prerequisites. Patents are an example of a highly regulated language that must be understood by subject experts.

Solution: Terminology Management and Subject Matter Expertise

Terminology validation in technical and legal translation is crucial and should be done by a team of specialized translators, legal specialists, and local market consultants. A glossary of terms should always be prepared before any translation project begins. It should include legal and technical terminology, domain-specific expressions as well as acronyms and abbreviations.

The combination of subject-matter knowledge and terminology management can make it easier to avoid costly errors or oversights in legal and technical translation projects. Although it may take time to get everyone to sign off the glossary of your organization, once it is complete, translators will be able to access the source of truth about your industry’s jargon as well as the most common terms.

You can reduce turnaround times and avoid inconsistencies between markets. Validating all product and service terminology will help you to create a cohesive product.

3.  Translating Marketing Materials

Business translation involves more than just internal, legal, or technical documents. It also includes dealing with marketing content and digital resources that are designed to attract, retain, and engage an external audience.

Promo collateral cannot be translated literally because it is meant to touch people emotionally. Marketers need to communicate the message in a way that is understandable to their target audience. This process is called marketing localization.

One of the most effective translation techniques that can be used for marketing localization is transcreation–defined as the creative translation of international advertising content that ensures the tastes, wants, and attitudes of a target audience are respected and matched to equivalent cultural references.

Challenge: Global Brand Consistency

Your company’s core message should be reflected in your marketing campaigns. It can be hard to stay true to your brand identity when you try to adapt to every market.

To put it another way, if your goal is to create a strong brand identity across the globe that distinguishes your company from others and still be localized for each market, you need to find a balance between your messaging and assets.

This applies to not only copies but also images and illustrations. Every culture perceives symbols and colors differently. For instance, while most people associate red with danger or love, some cultures in the Far East considered it to be the color of prosperity and good fortune. How can you preserve your brand identity while being sensitive to cross-cultural differences?

If you think about the French business community, they have their own unique style of conducting commercial activities. To cater, one can take help from French business translation agencies.

Solution: Collaboration and Localization Management

It is important to approach the process collaboratively between translation and marketing teams. Marketers can, for example, ensure that source content doesn’t contain metaphors that are difficult to translate. They can also ensure that the content is relevant to the target language for international SEO. They can prepare content that is easy to locate.

On the other hand, translators can help marketers communicate their concepts using simpler language that is culturally appropriate. Both sides must be aware of each other’s limitations and needs so that they can work together to achieve a result that is consistent with the brand identity of the organization while being sensitive to cultural differences.

Each organization has its way of managing this collaboration. It is best to designate a localization manager who maintains a helicopter view of all aspects of the translation process. They will also make sure that the content being translated matches your brand identity and overarching localization strategy. Marketing and translation teams should have access to additional resources, such as brand and communications guidelines, content briefs, and previously approved translations to help increase consistency in marketing localization.

Now that we have discussed three different problems in business translation with their relevant results, one might wonder if there is a single solution that can overcome all these challenges mentioned above.

And the answer is YES, there is!

A Translation management system can get the job done.

Translation Management System: A One For All Solution

There is a solution to every problem, and each solution requires the right tool. A Translation Management System (TMS) allows teams to work more efficiently together when it comes to business language translation.

Cloud-based TMS powered with AI-powered technology brings together all the best business translation practices in one place.

Machine Translation Memory

Translation memory (TM), a technology that stores previously translated content, allows translators to reuse portions of it to cut costs and time. This technology allows for faster turnarounds and greater output, as well as increasing consistency across all projects.

The main advantage of MT technology is its speed. Translation of large quantities of the content does not have to be slow or labor-intensive. It is equally important to note that MT technology learns through every translation. The better the results, the more you use them.

However, the best technology for multilingual projects and global business is a combination of TM capabilities and MT capabilities. This allows you to adapt your workflow and produce the best results possible for your company.

Conclusion

In this article, we discussed the different types of translations that are done in the field of business. Moreover, we also shared some strategies that can be utilized to overcome the challenges posed by these difficult translations. Taking assistance from translation services for business documents is the best way to go about it.

On the other hand, if you ever consider starting a translation business, this article will help you understand the challenges that you would face and how to overcome them.

How Medical Translation Can Help To Heal Patients?

July 20, 2022/in Medical, Translation/by shahzad.bashir

Time is critical when you are sick and require medical attention. Both the doctor and the patient cannot afford to misunderstand each other. A Medical Translation system that accurately interprets what the patient tells the doctor can eliminate any mistakes. This means that more lives are saved and more people can return home to their loved ones. Hospitals and clinics will have fewer liability issues if more lives are saved.

The Covid era has promulgated the need for medical translation services. The world is interconnected and needs the assistance of LPS, translators, and medical interpreters due to the prevalent language barriers.

In this article, we will elaborate on how medical translation can help to heal patients;

1. Medical Translation Technologies Diminish Patient Care Turnover

You can be sure that the majority of people around the world speak English at least at some level. And a large proportion of the people speak Spanish. However, if your language is Hindi, It can be difficult to find someone who can translate. Healthcare translation services eliminate the need for waiting with their telephonic or internet interpretation technology. This means that patients get the care they require immediately. Moreover, staff productivity increases as no one have to search for a translator.

2. Medical Interpreter Services Are Cost-Effective

Your staff will lose focus if they are too busy looking for a translator. This can lead to a decrease in office productivity. Hiring a medical interpreter is expensive each time you need one. Hospitals and other healthcare facilities can now have more capital to spend on medical equipment and services that will benefit all patients by having a reliable service they can rely on.

Translation services can also help hospitals and clinics make more money. Patients can see more patients if they don’t have to wait for an interpreter.

3. Accurate Medical Interpretation Improves Patient Care

Translation technology can help you save money and increase productivity. It also improves patient care.

It is important to document the patient’s medical history in order to ensure that it has been recorded accurately. Even though patients may not know what to say to their doctor, especially if there is a language barrier, their records are a great place to start.

Doctors can view a written translation of patient records and complete health questionnaires. This helps doctors to see if their patients understand the questions they ask. This allows for more time to be spent with the patient and physician.

4. Healthcare Translation Services Mean Mobility

Everyone benefits when more patients are treated and assisted each day. Patients get the care they require quickly, while healthcare facilities have more money to purchase better equipment and improve services. Access to translators is a key part of this equation.

Patients and doctors don’t have to wait any longer for a translator on-site because of advances in instantaneous human language translation. No matter the language that is spoken, the technology is available and ready to assist.

The satisfaction of patients increases as they have a better experience with their healthcare. The higher the quality of your overall experience, the greater the financial support you will receive from the public or other institutions.

5. Fewer Mistakes

Some languages cannot be perfectly translated into other languages. It is easy to overlook small details. These little issues can lead to big problems when it comes time to provide the best healthcare for a patient.

The physician will have two records that he can use when he uses translation services. The two records: one in the original language of the patient and another in translation.

This allows the doctor to see if their questions are being understood by both the patient and the interpreter. The technology captures the spirit and intent behind the doctor’s communication efforts.

Doctors and other medical professionals don’t have to worry about not providing the best possible care due to language barriers. They can feel confident that their message is not lost in translation.

6. Medical Translation Agencies Minimize Risks

Patients must have accurate information to be able to take care of their health and make informed decisions.

Accessing information is not always easy. Let’s take a real-life example to explain this concept. A 9-year-old Vietnamese girl was brought to the hospital with what appeared to be stomach flu symptoms. Instead of sending the staff interpreters to the girl, the hospital staff communicated in English with her older brother and sent written instructions (also in English) home.

It turned out that the medication the doctor prescribed to the girl was not usually recommended for children. The little girl died from a heart attack. The malpractice claim was settled by the hospital and physician for $200,000.

Anxiety and panic can increase during a crisis. Communication errors are very possible. These errors can result in an incorrect diagnosis, inability, or insufficient consent. Doctors, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare professionals can be sued. The error that cost the girl her life would have been avoided if the hospital staff had hired an interpreter or taken assistance from medical translation agencies to communicate with her family.

7. The Impartiality Of Medical Translation Can Help Save Lives

The fastest and most efficient way to communicate with the patient is to get a relative or bilingual colleague to translate. Because the truth of the matter is that medical interpreters are impartial. An interpreter is an impartial third person who communicates correct information to both the patient and the doctor.

A patient and his/her family members are often required to make critical decisions during a medical emergency. These decisions can have a significant impact on their future health.

Any kind of professional or emotional bias can only confuse or mislead the doctor and patient. It is especially important to have a medical interpreter explain the procedure and the consequences to patients if it involves a complicated diagnosis or treatment.

Conclusion

It is crucial to communicate quickly with a patient in order to diagnose and treat them. A translator or medical interpreter is needed on the spot to facilitate communication. This does not mean that a person is a general translator or interpreter, but rather someone with high-level expertise in medical translations.

A medical translation accurately translates the results and speedily diagnoses and treats the patient.
